The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Half Marathon 2026 is upgraded to a World Athletics Platinum Label race, with a new 10K category and expanded 10,000-runner quota.

The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (Hong Kong Section) Half Marathon 2026 is set to reach new heights this year, officially earning World Athletics Platinum Label status while expanding its race format with the introduction of a 10km category and a total quota of 10,000 participants.

Scheduled for Sunday, 15 November 2026, the race—organised by the Hong Kong, China Association of Athletics Affiliates (HKAAA) and title sponsored by Bank of China (Hong Kong)—marks a defining milestone for Hong Kong’s running scene. The Platinum Label recognition not only makes it the first race in Hong Kong to receive this elite classification, but also places it among a select group of just four events globally to achieve the distinction.

Expanded Race Format and Capacity

To meet growing demand and elevate the race experience, organisers have significantly scaled up participation capacity to 10,000 runners. The quota will be distributed across three categories: the Half Marathon Challenge Race, the Open Group, and the newly introduced 10km Challenge Race.

The addition of the 10km distance opens the event to a wider spectrum of runners, particularly those who specialise in shorter distances, while maintaining the iconic appeal of racing along the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge.

Race logistics have also been refined to enhance accessibility and comfort. Dedicated shuttle bus services will transport 10km participants from key urban locations to AsiaWorld-Expo, with continued shuttle arrangements from assembly points to the starting grid. The time limits remain set at 3 hours for the Half Marathon and 1 hour 30 minutes for the 10km race.

Registration Details

Priority registration for qualified runners will open from 11 June to 15 June 2026, followed by public ballot registration from 18 June to 2 July 2026.

The race welcomes both local and international participants aged 16 or above. Entry fees are set at HKD 550 for the Half Marathon and HKD 450 for the 10km race. Elite competition remains a key highlight, with top prizes for Half Marathon champions reaching up to USD 15,000, alongside dedicated awards for Hong Kong Permanent Residents.

Elevating Hong Kong’s Global Running Status

The Platinum Label designation is expected to attract world-class athletes and reinforce Hong Kong’s positioning as a premier destination for international sporting events. With its unique course set against one of the region’s most significant infrastructure landmarks, the race continues to offer a rare opportunity for runners to compete across the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge.

Leadership Perspectives at Press Conference

At the official launch held at the Bank of China Tower, Dr. David Mong, President of HKAAA, emphasised the organisation’s long-term commitment to nurturing Hong Kong’s running culture.

He noted that the elevation to Platinum Label status not only enhances the event’s global appeal but also provides local and international runners with the opportunity to compete alongside elite athletes on an iconic course. The introduction of the 10km category further broadens participation and showcases diverse running talent.

Mr. Stephen Chan, Deputy Chief Executive of Bank of China (Hong Kong), highlighted the race’s role in strengthening Hong Kong’s status as a hub for major international sporting events. He also pointed to its alignment with broader national strategies to advance sports development, promote wellbeing, and foster community engagement.

Framed by the theme “Run Together, Thrive Together,” the event continues to integrate competitive sport with public health advocacy and city-wide momentum, offering runners a chance to experience both athletic excellence and the scale of the Greater Bay Area’s infrastructure.
